Snowed In, Friends?

Snowpoc

The majority of my friends and family are about to be snowed in, again, going on Day 8 of "Snowpocalypse 2011."  My homeland is now lovingly being referred to as "SNOW-Klahoma."  As much as I would LOVE LOVE LOVE to be snowed in for more than a week (I have projects and packing, galore!), I know that y'all are getting antsy.  And bored.  I mean, let's face it... as much as I love Carried Bradshaw, one can only watch the complete Sex and the City series so many times.  Or X-Files.  Or Gilmore Girls.  Or Dawson's Creek.  Or whatever the last Netflix DVD was you got in the mail before "the BIG one."

So why not use a little bit of your snow day to make/do something for our Whitney Jill Random Act of Kindness celebration day!?  Here are a few ideas of things you can make/do... and I'm trying to keep in mind that most of you will not be able to get out and about for supplies (hence the term "snowed in")... so I'll try to make suggestions with things you'd have lying around the house!

RAOK Button

1. After the white stuff stops falling, shovel some snow for your neighbor.  I know with 12+ inches, even a small driveway can be a daunting task...so maybe you can tag team it with several people in your house or on your street.  How cool would it be for an elderly neighbor to look out his/her window to see the whole block shoveling their drive?!

2. When you bake goodies (which most of you will... I mean, what else is there to do?), wrap up a few extras and take them to your neighbor(s).  You know they're home.  :)  This could become the great cookie swap of Snowpocalypse 2011.

3. Write love notes in the snow for grandparents, aunts, uncles, etc.  Fill a squirt bottle (like a syrup bottle or something with a spout like that) with water colored with food coloring.  Bundle up, then go outside and make pretty pictures in the pristine snow.  Snap some pictures and send them to loved ones via email or Facebook.  Guaranteed to bring a smile!

4. Check in on elderly neighbors, neighbors who live alone, or single moms who may live on your street.  I know it could be awkward just to go knock on a neighbor's door, but you never know how much a few words with another person can mean to someone!  Especially someone who lives alone, or lives with a housefull of kiddos by herself!

5. If your kids are feeling crafty, break out the crayons and markers.  Make cards for neighbors, then deliver them to their front door (if you can get thru the snowdrifts) or their mail box.

6. Break out the glitter and glue!  Make some valentine's cards for loved ones.  Here are a few more great ideas for Valentine's Day crafts.

7. Do you have a Mac or other computer with a video camera built in?  Make a video for family or friends who live far away and send it to them.  (Isn't email/Facebook great?!) Let your kids get creative with this... dress up, tell a story, sing a song... the possibilities (and cuteness) could be endless!

8. Make this fun wreath for someone special.  Even though you may have to wait a few days until you can crawl out of your igloos to deliver it, this is a great "inside day" project!

  1. Life finds its wealth by the claims of the world, and its worth
       by the claims of love.
